Wolseley Winery Official Opening, July 2009
Wednesday, 29 July 2009 10:00

The weekend of 11th and 12th July saw the culmination of several months building works and preparations for the much anticipated grand opening of the new winery buildings. At last we had a space to showcase our wines and allow people to mingle and share the excitement of this important occasion.
With new signage installed and a bold red flag at the gate we were ready to test the new facility.
The weather was less than gorgeous, but no one seemed to notice. With the open fire roaring and the wood-fired pizza oven in full swing, there was no time to even notice the freezing winds and the occasional downpour.
The large courtyard doors were of course closed to keep the elements at bay and the new space worked wonderfully well even with a hundred people buzzing within.
Orio manned the pizza-making table and produced an astounding 350 tasty, often exotic pizzas over the weekend, whilst Roman manned the wood-fired pizza oven with great dexterity ….not to mention a bit of scorched hair!
Overall the pizzas were a tremendous hit and just made that essential difference to the environment, so that our guests and visitors could stay for hours and enjoy the wines, conversation and music.
Jannick and Mathieu (of the famed French team) manned the vertical tasting table and expertly delivered the never-before-offered 6 year range of Pinots and Cabernets.
Will Wolseley did not stop for a second and was endlessly packing wine orders, networking or stoking the fires and making sure all was running perfectly.
Gavin gave us a lovely turn on his guitar but it was a bit of a struggle against the ambient noise of all those people. Amplifiers next time perhaps?
Desiree washed endless glasses and helped keep the wheels turning, whilst happy customers circulated, tasted the wines and eagerly awaited the next instalment from Orio’s pizza table.
Good friends from Melbourne and further afield joined us, as did our local friends, neighbours and supporters. The Geelong Addy very kindly gave us a whole page of colourful faces in their “people” section and thoroughly confirmed the happy mood and cheerful atmosphere of the weekend.
Our thanks to all those who helped out so willingly. It is much appreciated.
Special thanks also to Andrew and Jane Sefton for their support…the signs and aprons are great!
We look forward to the next regular monthly bashes at the winery where we are planning live music, with wine and wood-fired pizza to cheer your spirits…so come on down and share the excitement.
